Eight-day Mechanical cuckoo clocks are powered by large, metal weights (approx 2.5lbs each) attached to a chain that wraps around a wheel inside the clock, making each element work properly. One weight controls the cuckoo sound/movement, while the second weight controls the time. If you choose a musical design, then there is a third weight that controls the music and dancers.
Cuckoo clock weights are typically made from cast metal, often designed in a traditional pine cone shape. They are crafted to provide the necessary gravitational force to power the clock's mechanism.
Eight-day weights drop more slowly and are heavier than 1-day weights, and must be pulled up with two hands (one pulling the chain and the other supporting the weight).
