Mechanical cuckoo clocks are traditional timepieces that use intricate clockwork mechanisms, typically driven by weights, and a pendulum to keep time. They are known for their distinctive cuckoo call, made from bellows opening and closing, that features a wood-carved cuckoo bird emerging from a door to announce the hour.
Mechanical cuckoo clocks were first documented in the mid-17th century, with the earliest known description dating back to 1629. However, the development of cuckoo clocks as we know them began in the Black Forest region of Germany in the 18th century.
